Good Morning! I never used to be a morning person. At least, not until I had my son. Seriously before I had Ally it was commonplace to not see me until at least 10am. Now, I am up by 5:30am. Not to say I haven't seen 5am before but previously it was either I was just getting home (ah the 20's) or I was begrudgingly catching an early morning flight or something. Today, these early morning hours are my favorites. I love that it's a time in the morning that Ally and I can share a few moments before the busy day starts and it's the best time to meditate and quiet the mind. Mommy magic time.

Now that we live in the big apple it is amazing to walk to streets of NYC before the city wakes up. I am also surprised to know that this city actually sleeps in. Unless you work in finance where you need to be in the office by 7am most places don't get going until about 10am. This means the streets are still and it's fascinating to see such a notoriously busy city so quiet. Especially when it's supposed to be the city that never sleeps. ("I thought the Rocky Mountains would be rockier than this" -- anyone?? Anyone??) Anyway....

 

One of the best things I do in the morning is drink this juice concoction to get things going. The juice varies based on the season and my mood but this is one of my favorite combinations. The spicy ginger gives the sweet tartness of the citrus a great morning kick.

 

Morning Juice

3 grapefruits, peeled

2 oranges, peeled

1 inch piece ginger

 

1. run all the ingredients through a juicer. Serve and Enjoy! -- (If you do not have a juicer you could run all the ingredients through a blender until smooth then strain the pulp through a mesh strainer or just drink it pulp and all.)
