Chai Tea

Chai Tea

Mmm Christmas. It's truly the most wonderful time of year. I love pulling out our funky collection of Christmas ornaments. It's a menagerie of little trinkets. Some given to me by family or friends, some I collected on my own and some are classics from my grandma's house. Here are a few of my favorites.

I was trying to think of the best thing to drink while I trimmed the tree. For me, it's homemade chai tea. I love a good black tea and pairing black tea with these festive classic chai spices is the perfect addition to my tree trimming project. The recipe is more simple then you'd think and you probably have most of the ingredients in your cupboard already.

Chai Tea:

3-5 black pepper corns

2 cardamom pods, lightly crushed

4-6 cloves

2 cinnamon sticks

1 thumb size hunk of fresh ginger, sliced

2 bags black tea of your choice (I used darjeeling)

2c milk or hemp milk

2c water

1 shot borboun (optional)

1. Bring 2c water to a boil.

2. Add in cardamom, cinnamon sticks, peppercorns, ginger & cloves.

3. Bring water and spices to a boil for about 3 mins, reduce to low heat and allow to simmer for another 15 or so until fragrant. (P.S. This makes your house smell AAAmazing).

4. Add brown sugar and stir to dissolve.

5. Add tea bags and allow the tea to steep.

6. Strain out the tea & spices and keep the chai tea in a pot.

7. In a separate pot, heat the milk to desired temperature.

8. Add the milk to the tea, stir and serve.
